Old Bens veterans win

Old Bens Veterans Soccer team scored a rousing 5 goals to nil win over Old Zahirians Veterans in their annual soccer encounter played at St. Benedict's College ground.

From the outset of the game Old Bens Veteran soccerite showed good form. They went on the attack and played a methodical game. Their passing ball control were far superior to Old Zahirians Veterans game plan.

Old Bens Veterans led 2-0 at the interval with goals coming off the boot of Nishantha Perera and Kishano Fernando. After the interval Old Bens Veteran Soccer team attacked vehemently and increased the lead to 5-nil. Donal Fernando struck 2 goals and M. Bala netted the fifth goal.

For Old Bens Athula Perera, Tony Anandappa, Sudhager Natar, Ravi, Trevin and Upul Gunasekera were outstanding. For Old Zahirians Veteran Soccer team former national player Ammanulla's two brothers Rahuman and Nalim excelled while Hishan, Faiz and Rizwan also played well.

Old Zahirians Veterans failed several scoring opportunities due to poor shooting.

The Old Bens Veteran Soccer Committee comprised D. Lakshman, Peter D. Cross (Secretary) Anura de Silva, Athula Perera, Rohan Jayawardena, Sharman Caldera, Nishantha Perera, Trevin Ramanathan, Kishano Fernando, Nishan Caldera decided to organise more matches for the veterans and also to popularise the veterans soccer amongst the other clubs and institutions. They also plan to hold and invitation tournament after the Sinhalese New Year.
