Special Board of Inquiry to probe Weliveriya blast

COLOMBO: Police media spokesman Senior DIG N.K. Ilangakoon said a board of Inquiry has been Appointed by the Defence Ministry to investigate whether there was a lapse on the part of security detail assigned to late Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

DIG Ilangakoon said the CID has taken over the probe into the Weliveriya suicide blast. "Since investigations are being carried out in tight secrecy, details of the outcome are confined to the TID and CID," he said adding that investigations could take a long duration.

"The Board will question every member of the Minister's security contingent to obtain a clear picture of the events on that day," he added. DIG Ilangakoon said the suicide bomber has not been identified and the CID was pursuing the matter.
