Ranganath-promising cricketer

The captain of Ananda College Ranganath Wijetunga completed a successful interschool cricket season while guiding his team towards victory in their annual Battle of the Maroons limited overs encounter against the traditional rivals Nalanda College.

Wijetunga who is also the captain of the Old Anandians under 23 side scored 650 runs from ten innings this season as a solid middle order batsman. In fact he scored a century in last year's Big Match and was selected as the best batsman and man of the match.

Wijetunga launched his career in 2002 with the Ananda College under 13 team and in the following year he emerged as the best player, best bowler and best batsman in the under 14 interschool tournament.

He was a member of the Sri Lanka under 15 team that toured Malaysia in 2004 and again was a member of the Sri Lanka under 17 team in 2005. He also captained the Ananda College under 16 team and the under 17 team.
