Shalina under-13 champ of HFC

Eleven year old Shalina Fernando became the under-13 champion by winning all her events in 100m, 200m, long jump, 80 hurdles and 4 x 100 relay at the annual sports meet of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya this month. At this meet, she equalled the school record in 200m.

Last year too, she was the under-12 champion at the schools' sports meet and also became 1st in 100m, 80m of under-12 age group at last year's Sir John Tarbet Meet held in Anuradhapura.

In early March, Shalina became under-13 champion by winning 1st place in 100m,, 200m, and long jump events at the divisional meet held in Colombo. In 2006 too she became 1st in 100m (under-11) in both Colombo South Division and Zonal Meets. Salina is trained under the excellent guidance of Sunil Gunawardena, Badra Gunawardena and Sriyani Kulawansa.

Shalina also excels in swimming and won the Junior Championship at the school's swimming meet in last October where she established a record in 33 1/3m freestyle. Last December she was placed 3rd in the under-14 category freestyle at the open invitation swimming meet held in Chennai, India.
