US Ambassador meets Nepal's former Communist rebel leader

NEPAL: The US Embassy in Nepal says the American ambassador met the leader of the former communist rebels. They are still listed as a terrorist group by the United States.

A statement issued by the embassy on Friday says U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Nancy Powell met Pushpa Kamal Dahal. He is the leader of the ex-rebels, formally called the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).

It was the first meeting between U.S. officials with the Maoists, who are still listed as terrorist organization despite joining main stream politics and securing the most seats in last month's election for a constitution drafting assembly. Katmandu, Friday, AP
