Regional law conference in Colombo

Under the theme 'Legal Education Towards Value based System of Law',
the Commonwealth Legal Education Association Regional Conference 2008
for the South Asian Chapter is scheduled to be held in Colombo from June
26 to 28.
Specially, Judges, lawyers, teachers of law, academics, policy-makers
of education, educational consultants and students are welcome for the
conference which will be followed by a Law Students Conference on `Value
Based Legal Education and Challenges of the Globalised Society' which is
organised to give an exclusive opportunity for law students of South
Asia to interact while discovering the strategies of meeting challenges
in the present world, the Chairman of the Media Committee A.H.G. Ameen
said.
Around 200 foreign representatives from various countries including
India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will participate in the conference at
which the attention will be drawn on eight topics such as 'Commercial
Law-Corporate Social Responsibility, Human rights, Environmental law,
Clinical legal education, Iurisprudential Argument, Alternate Dispute
Resolution, Solving and Prevention Disputes, Role of the Judge.
"The purpose is to explore the avenues by which values can be
integrated into the legal education curriculum. This may be the most
formidable challenge which presents itself before the legal fraternity
on the face of various complexities to which the legal system is
exposed," the Chairman of the Organising Committee and the Principal of
the Sri Lanka Law College Dr. W.D. Rodrigo said.
