Youth invents explosives detector
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the Government is out to help
the innovative youths and promote their inborn talents.
The President said so when a promising village youth Kelum Wadasinghe
of Weligama, Matara displayed his invention, a new apparatus to detect
hidden explosive in vehicles.
Equipped with a video camera and a high-powered bulb, the device can
check boats, fuel tanks in vehicles and small bridges for hidden
explosives. The apparatus has cost him only Rs. 40,000.
Ven. Rathmalketiye Siridhamma Thera, Ven. Atthudawe Dharmapala Thera,
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Heads of Armed Forces and
Inspector General of Police were also present on the occasion.
