Golden Stars and Sunrise in soccer finals

Golden Stars Sports Club and Sunrise Football and Athletic Club entered the finals of the Kandy District inter-club knock out Soccer tournament organised by the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation and played at the Bogambara stadium in Kandy.

A number of matches were worked in this tournament which provided excellent fare for the Soccer fans in the hill capital which has been starved of the poor man's game for months.

The tournament committee headed Kandy's Deputy Mayor K. L. Suminda Wickramasinghe (Chairman), M. Nadaraja (Co-ordinator), Inspector M. Raffaideen have done a good job in organising this tournament for clubs in the Kandy district.

The biggest shock of the tournament came when Sissu Sports Club Ampitiya scored a shock 1-0 win over the top favourites Kandy York SC - a club playing in the Premier League Soccer Tournament. But Sissu SC were in turned knocked out of the tournament by Sunrise F&AC who beat them 1-0.

The results of some of the matches played are Golden Stars SC beat Kandy Municipal SC 2-1, Golden Stars beat Hyline SC 3-1, Sunrise F&AC beat Green Park SC 2-1, Sissu SC beat Angustawatte SC 3-1, Sissu SC beat Kandy York SC 1-0, Sunrise F&AC beat Golden Wings SC 2-0, Sunrise F&AC beat Sissu SC 1-0.
