They too become victims of merciless traps and anti personnel mines set by the LTTE in the jungle to delay the speedy advance of the troops into Tiger strongholds. The troops attached to 7 Gemunu Watch Battalion operating under the 59 Division in the Weli Oya front found this lonely bear cub in the Andankulam forest reserve close to its mother and another bear cub who had got caught in traps set by the LTTE in the Andankulam forest reserve. This bear cub is now living under the care and affection of the 7 GW troops operating under the command of Lt. Colonel Priyantha Perera. The soldiers spare a few minutes of their busy time at the battlefront to look after this bear cub roaming around their battalion headquarters. Picture by Rukmal Gamage
