School textbook distribution completed

The Educations Publications Department yesterday said school textbook distribution has been completed and the Northern Province requirements were also shipped to Jaffna.

Education Publications Departments Commissioner General W.M.N.J. Pushpakumara stressed that there won’t be a textbook shortage in schools if Zonal Educational Directors take prompt action to distribute them to relevant schools.

Few reasons could have directly attributed to book shortages if any exists in schools. Books dispatched by the Department may have got piled up in Zonal Educational Directors’ offices without being distributed.

“The statistics sent to the Department for the issue of books to schools may sometimes be inaccurate and some schools may have admitted more students than what they have shown us,” he said.

The principals should take prompt action to avoid possible textbook shortages by inquiring from the relevant zonal educational offices whether necessary books are available.

Schools possessing an excess of textbooks can provide schools short of books through Zonal Educational Directors.

The principals could contact 0112785306, 0602084792, 0112784815 if there is any textbook shortage if all our attempts are unsuccessful. If textbook shortages exits due to the inaccurate statistics provided to the department, those school principals should come to the department in person and collect their books.

But they should bring a letter recommended by the Zonal Educational Director stating that the school is having a textbook shortage
