Rains cause havoc in several districts

Several areas were inundated following rising waters of the Kalu Ganga.

The water level had reached 12 feet as at yesterday the Ratnapura Disaster Management Centre said.

Floods had eased in the Kuruwita Divisional Secretary's division, while floods in the Ratnapura Divisional Secretary's area had also subsided.

Meanwhile, gales had destroyed six houses in Kolonne. Seventeen houses in eight Grama Niladari divisions had been completely destroyed by strong gales. Forty four houses were also damaged.

Ayagama and Elapatha areas are not facing a flood threat. Meanwhile in the Kegalle district, 200-300 families were affected in Deraniyagala.

One woman in Nuwara Eliya was injured when a tree fell on her following heavy winds.
