ACWBC Founders Day
The President and the Executive Committee of the ACWBC will hold the
‘Founders Day’ on August 9 at 10 a.m. at the ACWBC Headquarters - 400
Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07. The Chief Guest will be Prof. Kusuma
Karunaratne.

Memorial oration put off
The K. C. Kamalasabeyson PC, memorial oration fixed for August 1 had
been put off for August 22, the Organising Committee said.
The oration was originally intended to be delivered on August 1, but
was rescheduled in view of the SAARC Summit.

Badur Mowlood
The recital of Badur Mowlood, will start on July 31 after Magrib
prayers and continue until Isha prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque.

Prayers, religious lectures
The programme will commence on Sunday, August 03 with Rathibathul
Jalaliya by Maulavi Hafiz Aadhil, Principal of Al Kullieyathul
Arusiyathul Qudiriya Arabic College. It will be conducted after Magrib
prayers and will continue till Isha prayers. A religious lecture will
also be conducted by Moulavi Al Haj M. Mubarak (Falahi) after Isha
prayers.

District meeting
The People’s Bank Pensioners’ Association had organised a meeting of
it’s members residing within the Colombo district at 9.30 a.m. on
Thursday, August 7 at the Public Library Auditorium, Colombo 7.
The Association comprises of over a 4,500 retired members of the
People’s Bank. The district meetings of Kalutara, Rathnapura, Kurunegala
and Galle were held recently.
Hony President of the Association T. Rusiripala will preside.

Poly clinic
The Sri Lanka Cancer Society will hold their next Poly Clinic on
August 10, Sunday from 8.30 am to 11 am at No: 37/25, Bullers Lane,
Colombo 7 to screen patients for all types of cancer.
Paps Smears testing, Dental and General Clinic activities too will be
conducted. The services rendered will be free of charge.

‘More facilities to people once North is liberated’
As our valiant forces liberated the East from the LTTE jackboot,
under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the North would
also be freed in the coming months.
The privilege of free education would be extended to children in
Mullativu and Kilinochchi, said Agriculture and Agrarian Services
Minister Maithripala Sirisena at the opening of new Laboratory and
Computer Centre at the Welikanda, Sevanapitiya MMV recently. Today, the
people have a free time to engage in their daily avocation without fear.
“Our Forces will certainly free the areas still forcibly occupied by
the LTTE soon,” he said.

New batch of Ayurvedic doctors
318 Ayurvedic medical graduates will be recruited as from August
2008.
Of the total at 318 graduates, 212 will be from Ayurvedha, 33 Unani
and Siddha 73.
The rationale behind the move is to strengthen the community health
of the sector.

Stock of NIDs, soldiers’ pics recovered

On a tip-off the Kandy police discovered 36 spent cartridges, and a
stock of National Identity cards and photographs of uniformed army
personnel from a place close to a leading girls’ school in the city.
The identity of uniformed army officers have so far not been
established, sources said.
Police are conducting further investigations to arrest suspects.
