Achievement
Sinthuja Jeyakumar has successfully completed his four year degree
course in the Medical field specialising in X ray Unit from the
University of Kingston, London. Since she has performed extremely well
in this particular examination she’s now qualified to do her Masters
Degree.
She hails from Karaveddy and received her secondary education at St.
Bridget Convert, Colombo and Good Shepherd Government School, Kotahena.
Vishnu maha devalaya Esala festival
The annual Esala festival of the Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya, Devinuwara,
commenced with the first religious act of Kap planting ceremony under
the patronage of Basnayaka Nilame Kanchana Wijesekara at the auspicious
hour on Thursday.
From August 10 preliminary Peli peraheras will be conduced until
August 15.
The annual Randoli Maha Perahara will parade the streets on August
16.
Fire walking and Deva Thovilaya will be on August 23 and the festival
will end with the Deva Danaya the following day.
Uva-Wellassa University Vice Chancellor
Chandra Embuldeniya has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the
Uva-Wellassa University of Sri Lanka for three years with effect from
July 27.
Newspaper Agents' Association new office
The Newspaper Agents Association of Sri Lanka will open its new
office at 126-B15, YMBA building, Fort on August 06 at 9.30 a.m. with
the participation of officials of newspaper companies.
The Association has a membership of over 4,000.
Juki machines for vocational centre
The Youth Empowerment and Socio Economic Development Ministry will
provide 10 Juki machines to the Pettigala Estate Vocational Centre in
Balangoda upper division, on the instructions of Ceylon Workers Congress
General Secretary and Youth Empowerment and Socio Economic Development
Minister Arumugam Thondaman.
The Minister made this decision when he visited the Balangoda estate
sector recently.
The Pettigala Estate Vocational Centre in Balangoda has a shortage of
Juki machines. The centre has 40 workers.
Death of Sithy Cader
Sithy Cader passed away at the age of 69. She was the Principal of
the Colombo Ahadiyya School (Girls) Section for the last twenty five
years. A Committee Member of the Kalubowila Hospital and Joint Secretary
of the Women's Bureau MICH, Cader was very active in social services.
She is the wife of M.N.M. Cader, a Member of the Board of Trustees,
Moors Islamic Cultural Home (MICH).
Her Janaza took place at Dehiwela Muslim Burial Ground yesterday at
4.30 p.m. |
