MTD Capital take stake in Kapila Heavy Equipments
MTD Capital BHD, one of the leading infrastructure development
companies in Malaysia operating in seven countries acquired 90% of the
share capital of Kapila Heavy Equipments Ltd, the parent company of the
Walkers Group of Companies recently.
At the AGM the name of the quoted company was changed to MTD Walkers
PLC which established a Liaison between the two business conglomerates.
This change resulted in an upward rise in the value per share on the
Colombo Stock Exchange.
The Walkers Group consists of Walker Sons & Co. Ltd, Walker Sons &
Co. Engineers (Pvt) Ltd, Walker Sons & Co. (Distributors) Ltd, Walkers
Piling Ltd and Transport and General Finance Co. Ltd. The company known
as Walkers is one of the oldest engineering companies in Sri Lanka,
which was a household name set up in colonial times.
Walkers Sons & Co. Ltd has a rich history and was a British Sterling
Company established in the United Kingdom in 1854, whose shares were
traded on the London Stock Exchange.
Walkers being pioneers in the plantation industry, their activities
have been profoundly embedded in the design manufacture and supply of
machinery for the Island's Tea and Rubber Plantations.
In keeping with the times and the growth of the tea industry, the
company has commanded a leading position in the development and
manufacture of modern tea machinery.
The innovative design and production of the electrically operated
automated tea roller is one of the latest contributions by the company
towards the tea industry.
MTD Capital Bhd (MTD) is an investment holding company with core
businesses in civil engineering and construction, infrastructure
development, property development and the manufacturing of construction
related materials.
