Telecom partners with British Council for IYFE Award 2009
The communication giant, Sri Lanka Telecom takes great pride in
becoming the project partner for the International Young Fashion
Entrepreneur (IYFE) Award 2009.
The award, introduced by the British Council, Colombo seeks to
celebrate the important role of creative young entrepreneurs working in
the field of fashion. This award is unique in that it recognizes the
central role of young creative entrepreneurs in the development of a
competitive and sustainable business field.
This is yet another endeavour, which Sri Lanka Telecom supports with
the aim of bringing Sri Lanka into the international fashion arena
offering young Sri Lankan fashion entrepreneurs a networking opportunity
with reputed international designers.
Commenting on this project, Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Sri Lanka
Telecom Chairperson said, “Sri Lanka Telecom has always been committed
to supporting developing local entrepreneurship where our entrepreneurs
compete in the international markets.
This is why Sri Lanka Telecom is glad to be the project partner for
the International Young Fashion Entrepreneur Award 2009.
The award, I believe, seeks to identify and nurture these next
generation leaders in the local sector, supporting them in their
promotion of the best in national creativity and linking them with UK at
this key stage in their development.
Sri Lanka Telecom extends its fullest support to this endeavour,
which would eventually help improve Sri Lanka’s competitive advantage in
the global market”.
Commenting on this partnership, Country Director, British Council
Gill Westaway, said, “Through this award the British Council will be
looking to identify a Sri Lankan fashion entrepreneur who can champion
the promotion of the fashion industry in Sri Lanka, or an individual
whose character, drive and abilities clearly demonstrate the potential
for this person to become a future leader in the fashion sector , and
indeed a national role model for the development of the creative
industries in this country.
The first award was held in February 2008, where finalists from ten
countries including Sri Lanka competed for the international award in
London.
Darshi Keerthisena of Buddhi Batiks competed alongside nine other
international winners from countries such as India, Indonesia, Mexico,
Lebanon, Pakistan etc.
This year too, the Sri Lankan winner will be one of ten international
finalists and will compete in London in February 09 for the title of
International Young Fashion Entrepreneur 2009.
LG wins Reddot Design Award
LG once again solidified its existing commitment to innovative and
creative design at the prestigious and internationally recognized Reddot
Design Awards by winning an award for its High-output Chocolate Micro
System. LG’s latest stylish micro system received this honour for
possessing all the style, contemporary design and innovation that the
brand has become renowned for.
The 160W stylish micro system has special features such as a
high-gloss piano black bodyline (similar to LG’s chocolate phone), a
touch pad and red lighting that add a stylish sense of luxury and
sophistication to its value.
The micro system employs XTS (excellent true sound) which is the most
advanced audio technology developed by LG.
It controls and stabilises the entire frequency range to produce the
best clarity in sould and enables its users to have all their speakers
working in harmony with the amplifier for a more even and balanced sound
reproduction through all frequency levels.

MoU signed for Galle Season 2008
The inaugural Galle Season 2008 will take place from 23 to 29
December. Galle Season 2008 is set to be with a series of events
designed to recreate and reawake the olden day ‘Galle Season’ placing an
emphasis on the traditions and way of life, having an overall general
focus on the majestic and historic Dutch Fort.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Hemakumara
Nanayakkara, Minister of Agriculture, Chairman of the Galle Season
Committee and President of the Galle Library Committee and Glenda
Parthipan, on behalf of Emphasis, which is assisted by BT Options.
Minister Nanayakkara is the brainchild behind this concept, which is
to raise funds for the development and enhancement of the Galle Library,
one of the most historic libraries in Sri Lanka, which was built in
1832.
Speaking on the significance of the MoU, Minister said, “Today is a
significant day, as we take the next step in moving forward towards
recreating the Galle Season, which will foster peace and harmony as well
as helping old traditions come to life.
