Nine former PC members lose their seats

Nine former Provincial Council members who failed to receive the
required number of preferential votes at the North Central Provincial
Councial elections failed to be elected to the NCP Provincial Council.
Among them were Chief Government Whip (UPFA) Susil Gunaratne, Opposition
Leader (UNP) R. B. Abeysinghe and Rani Adikari (UNP).
The five JVP councillors also lost. Meanwhile nine new members have
been elected to the North Central Provincial Council. S. M. Ranjith has
secured 63477 preferential votes Kalyanawathi Karaliyadda, the only
woman member 28944, Ranaviru, Upali Wejekoon 12649 and former P. S.
Chairman and Sarath Ellangasinghe 11814 under the UPFA ticket.
Meanwhile, Major General Janaka Perera (UNP) who has obtained 116430
preferential votes, Kasturi Anurudhanayake 17926, Prasanna Mahindaratne
14177 and A. Anurdeen Attorney-at-Law 14013 have been elected to the
Provincial Council.
The only JVP member for MP, Wasantha Samarasinghe who has been
elected has been able to secure only 4653 preferential votes.
