Blood Transfusion Director to be interdicted

Colombo: Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage
yesterday decided to interdict the Director and the Medical Officer of
the National Blood Transfusion Centre on the recommendation of Public
Services Commission (PSC).
The PSC yesterday directed the Health Ministry Secretary to interdict
National Blood Transfusion Centre Director Dr. R.M. Bindusara and
Medical Officer K.M.I.L.A Naseer after considering the interim report on
the alleged issue of outdated platelets to Government hospitals.
The special team appointed by the Health Ministry to investigate the
alleged use of outdated platelet kits in the blood donation and
transfusion in Government hospitals recently presented an interim report
to the Public Services Commission seeking its recommendations against
the offenders. All key Government hospitals are to be brought under this
probe.
The investigators are expected to present their final report with
recommendations to avert this kind of situation in the future after the
ongoing investigation is completed.
