Expedite issuing birth certificates, urges Minister

The majority undergo severe difficulties due to the absence of birth
certificates specially when applying for the National Identity cards,
said Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu Jayasuriya. He
was addressing a meeting of District Secretaries at the Ministry
recently.
The Minister appealed to District Secretaries to focus special
attention on this issue and accelerate issuing birth certificates.
Highlighting the significant change in the public service offices after
introducing the Citizen Charter, Minister Jayasuriya said the Citizens
Charter has been highly appreciated by rural and urban masses.
The Minister said the financial report of the Public Administration
and Home Affairs Ministry was the first report which had been submitted
to Parliament being an example to other Ministries. Public employees
should work more closely with the media as their cooperation is vital
for a qualitative public service, the Minister pointed out.
Referring to the success of the teleconference system practised by
his ministry, Minister Jayasuriya said it was a strategy to cut down on
high fuel expenses. Jayasuriya also expressed his confidence on
restoring of civil administration in Mannar within 90 days with the
cooperation of Ministry officials. More Janatha Sathkaraka Seva will be
launched in Mannar in the future for the benefit of rural masses.
