Issue of NICs to estate dwellers to be expedited

COLOMBO: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka has instructed
authorities to obtain the assistance of Estate Superintendents for
issuing National Identity Cards for the estate community.
The probable date of birth of a estate worker should be decided on by
the Superintendent of the estate and the process should be finalised
before December 31.
This was announced at the meeting organised to review the problems
with issuing National Identity Cards for the estate community.
Addressing the meeting Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said
that the Government is bound to issue national identity cards for the
estate community who contributes immensely to the country economy.
The Prime Minister appealed to the Commissioner of Registration of
Persons A.P. Dharmadasa to expedite issuing National Identity Cards to
estate community without further delay. The Birth certificate is
compulsory for obtaining National Identity Cards. |
