MHA's hockey 7s cum annual awards ceremony tomorrow

The Mercantile Hockey Association's sustained existence of 51 years, is something that the association could be proud of, equally commendable is that it has always honoured its tournament obligations as laid out in its calendar of events.

MHA's current year will be climaxed by its 32nd annual seven-a-side hockey tournament on Sunday, October 5 at 8.00 am onwards at the Sara Oval.

This will be followed by the usual elaborate awards ceremony in the evening, of the league, the knock-out and sevens.

This prestigious, popular event is being sponsored for the second consecutive year by Browns PLC.

The chief guest at the function would be the Director/CEO of Browns Group of Companies Murali Prakash, while the guests of honour will be the Managing Director Janashakthi Insurance Co. Ltd; Prakash Schaffter and Mrs Sumi Schaffter. The teams competing in the seven-a-side on Sunday, according to their respective divisions are

'A' Division for the Dennis De Rosayro trophy - Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank 'A', Singer, Sampath Bank, Seylan Bank and Hatton National Bank 'B'

'B' Division for the singer trophy - Browns Group, Hongkong Bank and John Keells group

'C' Division for the lifebuoy trophy - Dialog, Arpico, Commercial Bank 'B', SriLankan Airlines and Unilevers.

'D' Division for the Edmund H. Cooray trophy AWD group, Airport and Aviation, Bartleets Group and Janashakthi Group.

'E' Division - Ceylon Cold Stores Trophy - Glaxo Smithkline, M.J.F. group and Hilton.

The Dennis De Rosayro Fair Play Trophy donated by IDAC (Pvt) Ltd, will be contested by only 'A' Division's teams.

The 'A' division will also receive the Dennis de Rosayro trophy donated by the Janshakthi Insurance Co. Ltd.

There will also be the presentation of cash awards and the gifting of hockey sticks to the outstanding player in all 5 divisions.

Awards will also be made to the 2008 league, as well the knock-out winners.
