Upper Kotmale will save Rs. 5 billion

Power and Energy Ministry sources yesterday said the CEB can save
over five billion rupees for electricity with the completion of the
second phase of the Upper Kotmale hydro power project.
According to the ministry sources, an Electricity unit can be
produced at Rs. 20 with completion of this project which is deemed to be
the last hydro power project in central Sri Lanka.
Power and Energy Minister John Seneviratne said this project will add
150 MW to the national grid and the 80 % of the project has now been
completed.
Missing
Police seek public assistance to find Dilini Tharaka Weerasinghe,
daughter of Weerasinghe Somasiri of Eramulla Kahaduwa who had been
reported missing since May 8, 2007.
She is about 5'-2" in height and fair in complexion and a Grade 8
student of the Mirisswatta Vidyalaya.
She was last seen in a blue frock and a purple colour blouse.
Any information about her could be given to the nearest police
station or to telephone no.2444444.
Electricity for 13,000 families
The Southern Provincial Ministry of Power has decided to provide
electricity to thirteen thousand families without electricity facilities
in the Southern Province at a cost of Rs. 7 million.
Two million eighty five lakhs of rupees for the Galle district, two
million fourty lakhs rupees for the Matara district and one million
eighty lakhs of rupees for the Hambantota district have been allocated
for the implementation of this programme.
Mallipotha tank to be renovated
Steps are being taken to rehabilitate and develop the dilapidated
Mallipotha tank in the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretariat Division at a
cost of Rs. 200 million by the Irrigation Department, said A.H.M. Cassim
Deputy Director of Irrigation Moneragala.

US Embassy officials will hold a presentation on the ‘Diversity Visa
Lottery Programme - 2010’ at St. Paul’s Milagiriya Hall, Galle Road,
Colombo 4 on October 16 from 6 p.m. Admission to the event is free.

The 1960-1970 Old Peterites Group will hold their inaugural

Deaf school PPA AGM
The Deaf School Past Pupils’ Association, Ratmalana will hold its
59th Annual General Meeting on October 19 at the Stanley Hall, The
School for the Deaf, Ratmalana at 1.00 p.m., followed by a tea party.
There will be cricket and netball matches between the past and present
students at the school grounds on that day for the late Maurice Pereira
Challenge Cups.
Former sports star, Shivantha Vivekanandan who is the President of
the Deaf School Past Pupils’ Association for past five years, said his
alma mater produced many distinguished past pupils. Vivekanandan said he
is grateful to Marie Wijeyaratne (Principal), who is patron of the Deaf
School Past Pupils’ Association for her valuable assistance.
