This sea lion named Carl, a gift from the Crefold Zoo of Germany, is open for public viewing at the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens from yesterday. The public can view this three-month-old 25 kg amphibious sea mammal from 4.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. daily. With the new animal, the Dehiwala Zoo now has a pair of sea lions. This animal was born on June 7, 2007. It arrived here on October 2.

Indian Govt respects sovereignty of other nations, says spokesman:

NEW DELHI: The Congress has said that it has conveyed the concerns of the Tamil Nadu parties to the Sri Lankan Government but indicated that the Indian Government has limitations on the issue of Sri Lankan Army offensive.

Stones pelted at Hindu office after article, 26 arrested

COIMBATORE: Twenty six activists belonging to Tamil fringe groups and sympathising with the LTTE cause were arrested yesterday when they pelted stones at ‘The Hindu’ office premises and attempted to enter the building to protest against an article carried by the English daily on the Sri Lankan issue.

Robust growth for Colombo Dockyard

Profits of Rs. 1,082 m for 2007:

Colombo Dockyard Limited (CDL) recorded the highest ever-total revenue of Rs. 8,621 million in 2007, which is an 18 per cent growth from last year’s revenue of Rs. 7,333 million.
