Fire and safety book launch

The book Gini Abiyogaya Jayaganimu a volume related to fire and safety, authored by fire and safety consultant S. Kariyawasam was launched on October 17 at the Sinhalese Sports Club new dining hall.

HNB Assurance sponsored the book.

Katina Pinkama

A Katina Pinkama will be held at the Isipathanaramaya, Havelock Town on October 19.

Christian Council events

The National Christian Council of Sri Lanka has organised several events to mark the visit of General Secretary World Council of Churches Rev. Dr. Samuel R. Kobiah.

A Joint Holy Communion Service will be held on October 19 at 5.00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Living Saviour, 368/3, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7. Rev. Dr. Kobiah will be the preacher.

This will be followed by a cultural programme at the Cathedral premises.

A public lecture on Peace Reconciliation and Transformation by Rev. Dr. Kobiah will be held on October 20 at 6.00 p.m. at the Auditorium of The Ceylon Bible Society, 253, Galle Road, Colombo 03.

Hela Veda Medura

Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa Karaliyadda and Labour Minister Mervyn Silva will lay foundation stones for a new Hela Veda Medura at the Kelaniya Polhena Toxicology Hospital and Medical School premises on October 20 at 10.30 a.m.

Sabaragamuwa University Chancellor Ven. Prof. Kamburugamuwe Vajira Thera will preside.

The induction of new entrants to the Toxicology Medical School and the 2007 prize distribution of the school will follow.

Public lecture

Dr. Harsha Munasinghe, Director, Postgraduate Studies, Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa will deliver a public lecture on Towards, Sustainable Building: A Paradigm Shift in Architectural Form Making at 4.30 p.m. on October 22 at the SLAAS Auditorium, 120/10, Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07.

Trojan Kanthavo

The Sinhala version of the Greek play Trojan Kanthavo (The Trojan Women) will be staged on October 24 at Sudampaya Theatre at Anamaduwa and October 31 at Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana.

Arangetram

The Bharatha Natya Arangetram of Selvi Archathaa and Selvi Rishmithaa, students of Kalasuri Srimathy Vasugy Jegatheeswaram of "Natya Kala Mandir" will be held under the patronage of internationally renowned dancer Nritya Choodamani Srimathy Priyadarshini Govind on October 18 at 6.00 p.m. at New Kathiresan Hall, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 04.

Dr. Goolbai Gunesekara, Principal, Asian International school will be the guest of honour.

Security seminar

The Industrial Security Foundation will conduct seminars on security related subjects and an exhibition on October 20 and 21 at the Galle Face Hotel.

The theme of the seminar is 'security in an era of terrorism'.

Essay Competition

The P. Navaratnarajah Foundation will give an award in memory of late P. Navaratnarajah, QC, for an essay which exemplifies critical scholarship in the area of the Law of Evidence.

The award consists of Rs. 25,000 and a gold medal. The award will be made on December 16 (Birth Centenary Day of P. Navaratnarajah QC).

Attorneys-at-Law and Law students who are born on or after January 1, 1973 can participate. Those who wish to submit essays should give a written intimation on or before October 20, 2008 to A. A. M.
