LTTE killed Janaka Perera - UNP Chairman
COLOMBO: United National Party Chairman Rukman Senanayake in an
interview with the SLBC yesterday said the LTTE was directly involved in
the assassination of NCP Opposition Leader, Retired Major General Janaka
Perera in Anuradhapura.
He said the LTTE has resorted to carry out such killings willfully to
create a conflict among political parties and gain undue advantage in
the face of sagging power in the North due to the Security Forces’
action against them in the North.
He assured UNP’s fullest support to the Government’s endeavour to
eradicate terrorism.
The Government have a right by the citizens to use force against
terrorism when it becomes a threat to the country, Senanayake said.
The International community should necessarily be apprised that this
endeavour is not against the Tamil people who have coexisted with the
majority Sinhalese for centuries but against a terrorist outfit that has
killed thousands of innocent civilians and political leaders, he said.
Referring to numerous interpretations by certain political parties in
Tamil Nadu over the North and East issue, Senanayake said a Government
has unquestionable and supreme duty of protecting the country and its
citizens from any kind of threat and third party involvement or force in
that respect can not be entertained under any circumstances. |
