Export Development Minister highlights diversity of exports

Peiris delivered a keynote address at the meeting of the Confederation
of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry which was held in
Manila, Philippines, recently.
This event which brought together leading Government personalities
and representatives of the business sector from 24 countries was
inaugurated by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Philippines.
Prof. Peiris, in his address to the plenary sessions highlighted Sri
Lanka’s achievements in respect of the quality and diversity of its
exports.
He had discussions with leaders of the business Chambers from Japan,
Australia, Korea and New Zealand to expand Sri Lanka’s markets for her
exports.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Federation of Chambers of
Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and the Philippine Chamber of
Commerce was also signed in Manila on the sidelines of the meeting.
The Memorandum was signed by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to The
Philippines Aloy Ratnayake PC, and Miguel Varela, Chairman of the
Philippine Chamber in the presence of Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris. As a
unanimous gesture of support for Sri Lanka’s industries and exports, the
Confederation decided to hold its annual meeting for 2010 in Sri Lanka.
