Ananda shuttlers make a clean sweep

Ananda College, Colombo made a clean sweep of all the Schools
badminton ‘A’ Division trophies for 2008 when they won the Ananda
Alahakoon Memorial Team Championship trophy by defeating Dharmasoka
College, Ambalangoda 3-0 in the All Island Schools under 12 ‘A’ Division
Badminton Championship Organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton
Association and sponsored by St. Anthony’s College and Kandurata
Development Bank and worked off at the Indoor courts of St. Anthony’s
College at Katugastota yesterday.
Ananda College completely overwhelmed Dharmasoka College in the
singles.
The results of the finals Dakshitha Gunatillake (Ananda College) beat
Sachin Madhushan (Dharmasoka College) 13/27, 21/18, 21/11. Pulina
Amaranayake (Ananda) beat Malith Anuska (Dharmasoka) 20/22, 21/14, and
21/10, Chanuka Marapona (Ananda) beat Shanuka Hasaranga (Dharmasoka)
21/18, and 21/19.
St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia and St. Anthony’s College, Kandy
finished second runners-up.
Ananda College on their way to the championship honours beat
Presidents College, Maharagama 3-0, beat Dharmaraja College ‘B’ 3-0,
beat Prince of Wales College 3-0. In the quarter finals they beat
Dharmaraja College ‘A’ 3-0. In the semi finals they beat St. Thomas
College, Mount Lavinia 3-0.
Ananda College enjoying one of their best seasons under the guidance
of former national badminton coach K.S. Pushpakumara have now won the
Under 19 championship, Under 15 championship, under 13 championship,
under 10 championship, under 12 championship and the under 15 Doubles
championship.
The winners of the other divisions of the under 12 championship were.
‘B’ Division Champions: Rahula College, Matara. Runners-up: Nalanda
College, Colombo.
‘C’ Division Champions: Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala runner-up
Gothami Junior School, Gampaha.
‘D’ Division Champions: St. Peters College, Gampaha. Runner-up P. De.
S. Kularatne Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda.
‘E’ Division Champions Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Kottawa. Runner-up Leeds
International School, Galle.
