Udara 5-25

Kingswood medium pacer Udara Hettige took 5 for 25 in his opening spell to dismiss Richmond College, Galle for 117 on the opening day of their inter-school cricket match which began at University Ground, Peradeniya yesterday.

At close the Kingswoodians had replied with 38 for 3 with Udara Hettige remaining unbeaten on 22 not out.

Richmond 117 all out in 66.4 overs (T. Nadeera 38, T. Waduge 24, Udara Hettige 5 for 25, Chalitha Dharmaprema 2 for 47)

Kingswood 38 for 3 wickets in 19 overs (Udara Hettige 22 not out).


Cycling for Coomaravel Cup

The Winged Wheel Cycle Club, the oldest club for the sport, has organised a cycling event for Under-23 Elite Racing Riders. The event is scheduled to be conducted around Vihara Maha Devi Park track commencing from 2.30 p.m.

The winner of the event will be awarded the Maurice Coomaravel Trophy and a cash award of Rs. 30,000 while there will be further cash awards up to 10th place.

The riders will ride for 30 laps each consisting of 2.1 km. The race is to be conducted by the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka.

According to organisers the race is to mark the first death anniversary of former Olympic cyclist and seven times winner of the Tour de Lanka, Maurice Coomaravel. He was one of the active members of the Winged Wheel Cycle Club.


Petes u-15 champs

Shan Wedasinghe hit an unbeaten half century and Jonathan Sundarasinghe captured four wickets for 35 to help St. Peter's College beat Royal College by 65 runs in their Masscom inter school under 15 division two cricket tournament final played at the CCC grounds, Maitland Crescent yesterday.

St. Peter's: 161 in 49.1 overs (K. Ranjana 22, S. Fernando 28, S. Wedasinghe 55 n.o, C. Nanayakkara 2 for 21, N. Lahir 2 for 23)

Royal: 96 in 40.4 overs (U. Sumathipala 25, R. Karunaratne 17, J. Sundarasinghe 4 for 35, Shan Fernando 3 for 14)


U-15 Div. I final today

St. Anthony's College, Katugastota, will take on St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya in the finals of the All Island Schools Under 15 Division I cricket tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association at the CCC grounds today.

The Antonians will be led by that consistent run-getter Yohan Woods and they have won all their matches this season thus remaining unbeaten.
