Envoy calls on Maldivian President elect
Sri Lankan Acting High Commissioner H M T Wijayawickrema has paid a
courtesy call on Maldivian President elect Mohamed Nasheed, according to
the office of the President Elect.
At the meeting held last afternoon at the office of the President
elect, the High Commissioner expressed hope that the brotherly ties
existing between the two countries for centuries will continue to
strengthen in the future.
The High Commission said the democratic system that is being
introduced to the world will be an example to the other states.
President elect Mohamed Nasheed expressed that the new Government
will open up trade in the Maldives and that this will provide additional
opportunities to the Sri Lankan business community.
Nasheed further expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan Government and
to President Rajapaksa for the hospitality, support and protection
extended to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members while it was
operating from Sri Lanka. |
