Wushu death: Magistrate calls for report on equipment

Colombo Additional Magistrate Kumari Abeyratne yesterday called for a comprehensive report on sports equipment and tools which were in use at the Inter school Wushu competition in which Madura Weerasinghe of Kamburawala Maha Vidyalaya, Baduraliya participated.

The additional magistrate made this order at the magisterial inquiry into the death of Madura Weerasinghe during the competition at the Sports Ministry Indoor stadium.

She declared the death is due to a cerebral injury following an accidental strike by a blunt tool. This has caused extensive haemorrhage.

The Magistrate pointed out that accidents of this nature cannot be averted during sports competitions and declared she is convinced there had been no personal grudge between Weerasinghe and his rival.
