Sandwani 2008

The Eastern band competition Sandwani 2008 and show organised by the Eastern Band of St. Paul’s Balika Vidyalaya, Milagiriya will be held at 6.00 p.m. on November 10 at the Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana under the auspices of Principal Geetha Abeygunawardena and guests R. A. Kularatne (Director of Educational Sports, Western Province), Premachandra Lankathilaka (Director of Education Aesthetic), Professor Amara Ranatunga, Professor Dayaratna Ranatunga and Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe.

Iqbal Day celebration

The Sri Lanka-Pakistan Friendship Association will hold Iqbal Day celebration - 2008 at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo 07 on November 15 at 4.00 p.m. Allama Iqbal is a renowned poet, philosopher, educationist and politician.

Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Dr. Fazal-ul-Rahuman Kazi will be the Chief Guest and Deputy Minister of Tourism Faiszer Musthapha will be the Guest of Honour.

Justice S. I. Imam will deliver the keynote address.

Birth anniversary

Today is the 106th birth anniversary of B. Zahiere Lye, former Appointed Member of Parliament. He was the founder of the “Padang” Complex in Colombo and the Malay Rupee Fund.

X’mas bon-bon demo

A demonstration of Christmas bon-bon making, vegetable garnishing and serviette folds will be held today at 10.30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Community Centre, 19 De Alwis Place, Dehiwela. It will be conducted by a community member who has decades of experience in this field.

Kingswood blood donation

The annual blood donation camp organised by Kingswood College, Kandy will be held at the college on November 11 from 9.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

Royal over ’70 Group

The Royal College over ‘70 Group will meet at the Eighty Club, Torrington Avenue on November 16.

This group first commenced having fellowship lunches in 1995.

Service of praise and worship

An extraordinary service of ‘Praise and Worship’ will be held on November 9 at 10.30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha (adjoining the BMICH), Colombo 7.

Accreditation grant to labs

The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) has launched a scheme for accreditation of medical/clinical laboratories based on international standards.

The first two laboratories to qualify for accreditation will be granted accreditation at a ceremony on November 13 at 5.00 p.m. at the Trans Asia Hotel, Colombo.

Vrushabha Raja

Artiste Vijaya Nandasiri’s Vrushabha Raja will be staged at the Galahitiyawa Central College auditorium on November 8 at 2.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. in aid of the Old Boys Association of Galahitiyawa Central College.

Burhani awards day

The annual awards day of Burhani Serendib School, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4 will be held on November 11 at 2.00 p.m. at the Bishop’s College auditorium.

Professor M.T.M. Jiffry, Vice Chairman of the University Grant Commission will be the Chief Guest. Janab Amil Saheb Noorduddin Bhai Saheb Bhai will be the Guest of Honour.

Kusa Pabawathi at Moratuwa

Vijaya Nandasiri’s ‘Kusa Pabawathi’ stage drama will be staged at the Vishwa Samadhi Hall, Rawatawatta, Moratuwa tomorrow (9) at 2.00 p.m. and 6.00 p.m.

The Old Girl’s Association of Princess of Wales College has organised the show and proceeds of the show will be in aid of the development projects of the College.

Vijaya Nandasiri, Devika Mihirani, Douglas Ranasinghe and several popular stars will perform in the drama.
