Onara sets up three new records

Onara Hettiarachchi of The British School, Colombo has set up three new swimming records in the under 08 category during the Top Ten Swimming Championship which was conducted at the Ananda College Swimming Pool yesterday.

First she set a record for the 25m free style clocking 19.16 secs to erase the record of 23.89secs held by Kuviru Manamperi in 2006. In the 25m breast stroke she had a time of 26.92 secs. to lower the previous record of 29.55secs set by Manamperi also in the same year.

The third record set by Onara was for the 25m butterfly stroke clocking 23secs to take off the record held by J. Seniya Wijetunga in 2006. Wijetunga’s timing for this event was 26.18 set in 2006. Onara is coached by E.G.A. Wilson. She was adjudged the champion swimmer at this meet for her record breaking achievements.
