Why was former player appointed as tour selector?

Questions have been raised as to on what grounds and criteria the
Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge has ratified the
appointment of a former Sri Lanka rugby player to function as the sole
tour selector during Sri Lanka rugby team’s tour of Taiwan shortly.
Rugby analysts are baffled by the appointment of this ex-national cap
given his prejudice against some players and they insist that handing
over power to this particular official to solely pick and choose the
national team at a crucial tournament could seriously affect the
country’s chances in the event.
They further stated that this tour selector has insisted on
travelling on First Class and that he has been particular on privileges
that are available for officials when accompanying teams on overseas
tours. |
