Seetha Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy, clinched yet another hockey
championship title when they beat Pushpadana Girls College, Kandy, 4 - 0
in the finals of the girls under 13 hockey tournament organised by the
Kandy District Schools Hockey Association and played at Police grounds,
Kandy. At half time Seetha Devi stickers led 2 - 0.
Highlight of the finals was the power play by Seetha Devi skipper and
centre half Kavinda Supun who scored all four goals in the match. She
was in such cracking form that every given opportunity she tore into the
opponents' defence to sound the boards.
Her ruthless play in the finals dashed Pushpadana Girls College's all
hopes of making an impression in the game or at least in providing a
better opposition. Kelum Shanthasiri and G.G. Dharmaratne umpired.
St. Anthony's Girls College, Katugastota clinched the third place
defeating Girls High School by the close margin of 2 - 1. It was
refreshing to see the lasses from Girls High School once again being in
the forefront of top hockey.
In the semi-final Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya met with unexpected
opposition and were made to fight all the way by Girls High School
before the former won 1 - 0. At half time there was no scoring. It was
once again left to Kavinda Supun to score the winning goal and book her
team a berth in the finals.
In the second semi final Pushpadana Girls College beat St. Anthony's
Girls College 2 - 1.
Seetha Devi stickers have now proved in no uncertain terms that they
are a top hockey school having won almost all the tournaments they have
participated this year. The team is coached by M.A.M. Ashroff. |
