Forces aim to bring peace to North - PM

KOTTE: Prime Minister Rantnasiri Wickramanayaka yesterday told
Parliament the Government is making arrangements to create an
environment conducive to Northerners to live in peace and harmony.
The Premier was participating in the Committee Stage debate on the
Appropriation Bill - 2009. Twenty-two Financial Heads including
President, Office of the Prime Minister, Judges of the Superior Court,
Office of the Cabinet Minsters, Office of the Leader of the House,
Office of the Chief Government Whip, Office of the Leader of the
Opposition were taken up for debate.
He said there is a lawsuit before Supreme Court regarding the
composition of the Constitutional Council. Following the guidance of the
Supreme Court, the President, Opposition Leader and Prime Minister are
discussing to solve problems raised regarding the composition of the
Council. It is the responsibility of all of us to protect law and order
in the country, he said. The Government has the responsibility to
protect the democratic rights of the people.
“We have realised this well and are creating an environment conducive
for all communities to live in a free and peaceful manner. The
humanitarian mission initiated by the heroic Armed Forces will end
bringing everlasting peace to the North.
It is the objective of military operations to consolidate democratic
rights of the Northerners.
