Programmes planned for Mahinda Chinthana Third anniversary

The Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Empowerment have made arrangements to carry out the following programmes to mark the Third Anniversary of the “Mahinda Chinthana”.

Programmes for

street children

1. The first step will be launched at the Day Care Home for Children at Borella, on November 19, by the Department of Probation and Child Care.

2. Admitting non-schoolgoing children to schools.

Scheduled to be launched in the Western Province by the Department of Probation and Child Care.

3. Television programme on violence against women and children.

Implemented by the National Committee for Women and the National Child Protection Authority.

4. Opening of the first Resource Centre for elderly women on November 21 at Homagama.

5. Starting the construction of a Day Care Centre for children whose mothers are incarcerated at the Welikada prison.

6. Launching of a documentary film with the theme of housing, related to early childhood development.
