Tamil language training for police
The Milinda Moragoda Institute initiated a free Tamil language
training course for police officers in the Colombo DIG's Division.
The six month course is for officers who man inquiry desks at the
police stations and those deployed on security purposes.
This will enable them to have better rapport with the Tamil speaking
people in the city. Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramarathne
met Minister Moragoda at a ceremony to hand over computers and photocopy
machines to OICs of police stations in Colombo East and Colombo West. He
stressed the value of the knowledge of the Tamil language to police
officers specially those working among the Tamil people in the city.
The Minister promised the IGP to help him in this initiative and
instructed his officials to work immediately on this.

Brahmanawatte Sivali Thera addressing the gathering in Tamil emphasised
the value of the Tamil language, saying the initiative will create
better understanding between the two main communities, Sinhala and
Tamil. |
