WP Community Police to help boost security
Chamikara Weerasinghe
The Western Province Community Police has placed volunteer security
assistance programmes in the province to enhance public safety at common
places such as markets, bus stands and railway stations as a
precautionary measure against the possibility that the terrorists would
let loose bombs on the public out of frustration and agony that the
writing is on the wall for them in the North, with the Security Forces
rapidly advancing.
Police said, steps have been taken with the participation of youth in
the Grama Seva zones, to intensify security in public places with the
Police to supervise them to detect any suspect LTTE cadre. Police said
they have arranged to conduct public awareness programmes at various
locations to provide them with information that help them identify a
suspected cadre or an attempt in progress.
The first programme is to take place at the Fort Railway Station,
Bastion Place, Colombo Central Bus Stand and Gunasinghapura with the
participation Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage. The programme is
directed by SSP I.M.Karunaratna on the instructions of Colombo Division
(Range 3) DIG H.M.D.Herath.
