Lanka Lions SC excel in Dubai

The Old Zahirians ‘90 Group who are employed in Banks and Mercantile
Sectors in United Arab Emirates had organized a rugby club as ‘Lanka
Lions Sports Club’ in Dubai. A rugby sevens tournament was worked off by
the Wanderers Rugby Club, Dubai for Sri Lankan schools past rugby
players which was held at the Wanderers Rugby Club grounds in Dubai
recently.
More than 50 - participants from Sri Lanka who are past rugby players
from five Schools took part in this tournament. The Old Zahirians locked
horns with the following teams: Zahira beat Trinity ‘B’ 35-7 points, UAE
Combined Schools 42-nil, St. Anthonys 42-7 and St. Peters 28-14 In the
semi-finals Zahira beat Isipathana 14 nil and Zahira lost to Trinity A
by 19 points to 7 in the finals.
Thus Zahirians became the runners up. According to M.R. Slamath
(Coordinator), the Zahirians played an excellent game who dominated this
years tournament from the beginning.
It was nice to see Former CR & FC and National Player M.J.M. Mushtaq
and National Youth player who toured Japan Imran Marso with his booming
kicks excelling for Old Zahirians who were named as Lanka Lions Sports
Club.
