Despite several drawbacks in the Kirimetiyana Dharmarama Vidyalaya
rural village school it was able to obtain victories in dancing and
music defeating all other vidyalayas in the North Western Province said
the Principal Sunil Jayasinghe.
He was addressing the School Development Society meeting held at the
vidyalaya main hall.
He said it was a great fame to the school, that the two teams dancing
and music will participate to the all island competition held at Matara
on January 10, 2009.
The Principal said that there are no room facilities to conduct
dancing and music classes and no security measures in the school to keep
dancing and music instruments and despite that the vidyalaya children
were able to obtain three first places in N.W.P.
The Principal said that there wasn't a separate room in the school
for an office, therefore a classroom is used as an office without any
security.
He informed the parents that there is no proper playground for the
school and which is having is a heap of gravel and children everyday get
injured by falling on gravel. Due to this reason the vidyalaya was
unable to hold an annual sports meets for a number of years.
Over one thousand parents participated at the meeting and a teacher
of the vidyalaya said today most of the children are addicted to the
Rupavahini channels which are not suitable for children even for adults
also it had made children using mobile phones as a fashion.
