Berty gets more preferential votes at recounting

The recounting of the election results declared at the end of the
last North Central Provincial Council Elections ended yesterday under
the supervision of the Elections Commissioner on a Court directive.
The special feature disclosed at the recounting is the increase in
the preferential votes of the North Central Chief Minister Berty
Premalal Dissanayake by 278 votes.
He received 105,588 preferential votes at the last PC elections. At
the recount it was 105,866.
The election petition for a recount to the Supreme Court was filed by
candidates who contested under the UPFA at the 2008 PC elections.
The recount was filed by P.B. Dissanayake, H.P. Somadasa, Nalin
Wijeratne, Susil Gunaratne, Kumuduni Basnayake and Jayalath Bandara.
North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake commenting on
the revised results, said the mud sligning against him had proved to be
false.
