Budget vote today
COLOMBO: The Vote on the Third Reading of the Budget will take place
in Parliament today.
The Fourth Budget of the UPFA Government was presented to Parliament
last month by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Budget contained a number of proposals aimed at spurring local
production and reviving the rural economy.
The Committee Stage debates were shortened this year and the
financial heads of 21 ministries were taken up last Friday. The debate
was wrapped up in one month. The Defence Budget was passed in Parliament
last week with 119 votes in favour (a majority of 105), with the UPFA,
JVP, NFF and JHU voting in favour.
