Papaw, plantains in 10 DS areas

Wayamba Provincial Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Irrigation has decided to plant papaw and plantains in 10 selected DS areas in the North Western Province.

This was stated by a spokeswoman attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Irrigation.

She said the main objective would be to improve the economy and availability of fruits throughout the year, with improvements in planting techniques.

Under this programme it is proposed to provide high grade planting materials, adequate water supply, organic facilities and the latest technical advice will be channelled through the Provincial Council.

Accordingly selecting relevant areas kolikuttu, ambul, anamalu, ambun and seenikesel will be introduced while 'Ratna Papol' will also be introduced.

The areas selected are Narammala, Alawwa, Polgahawela, Kuliyapitiya, Bingiriya, Mawathagama, Wariyapola and Hettipola.
