Sea Port to boost export goods

The dream of the founder of DSI group to export shoes from Galle harbour was not possible due to various reasons said the Managing Director DSI group of companies Kulatunga Rajapaksa.

He was addressing a seminar at the Tzuchi National School auditorium to educate would be exporters of Hambantota district on the export of export oriented products. Managing director DSI said that with the setting up of the Hambantota Sea Port that dream will become a reality. The export activities in Hambantota district are progressing due to the boost given by the Export Development Board.

He said the Hambantota Sea Port and Airport constructions will be a catalyst for export development that will bring a colossal sum of money to the country in the form of foreign exchange.

The MD said would be exporters must make up their minds to turn out export oriented products because the first phase of Hambantota Sea Port construction will come to a climax in 2010.

He said the people of Ruhuna and Ruhunu Giruwapattu were in the forefront in business and industrial sector, since ancient times. The most successful industrialists and businessmen hailed from these areas.

The MD said that his company exported shoes to foreign countries even before the Export Development Board came into existence. Buyers in foreign countries are a highly experienced lot. If we try to deceive them we will lose a large volume of sales.

He said the pleasant picturesque look of a factory contributes greatly towards the attracting of buyers. The exporters must convince the buyers of their products from the first fax message in order to capture the export market. Email, fax facilities and telephone facilities are most important.
