Minister of Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services,
Maithripala Sirisena and General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP),
recently visited Malaysia to discuss at length the common features,
organisation, structure and Youth Wing activities of the individual
parties.
He was received by General Secretary of United Malays National
Organisation (UMNO) Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan B. Tengku Mansor. UMNO is
Malaysia's largest political party and main constituent party of the
National Front Government which has been Malaysia's ruling political
party since Independence.
The Minister appreciated the prevailing cordial bilateral relations
between Sri Lanka and Malaysia and the vast development activities
occurring in the country. Mr. Mansor said that their country was well
aware of the Agriculture transformation taking place in Sri Lanka under
the leadership of the Minister and more specially the successful
National Campaign of 'Let us Cultivate and Uplift the Nation' to achieve
self-sufficiency in food production by the year 2010.
The Malaysia Agriculture Ministry envisages sending a delegation of
Agriculture specialists to Sri Lanka to study and emulate this Program
in Malaysia. |
