Intervention Petitioners of the Water’s Edge fundamental right case
filing a motion yesterday pleaded to the Supreme Court to direct the
Urban Development Authority (UDA) to divest lands acquired from them or
be given alternative lands.
Pinkama to bless President and nation
A pinkama to invoke blessings on the President, Security Forces and
Police and the country organised by Bharata Lakshman Premachandra and
the youth activists in Galwana will be held at Galwana junction,
Weliwala Road, Angoda on Saturday January 31.
The program will include a colourful procession and an all-night
pirith ceremony on Saturday followed by a heel dana on Sunday morning.
Pooja to bless country
Jayashakthi Maha Pooja organised under the patronage of Shastrapathi
Pandit Ven. Metaramba Hemarathana Thera will be held on January 24 at 5
p.m. at the Situlpauwa Raja Maha Viharaya to invoke blessings on
President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the
Security Forces, the Police and Civil Defence Force.
Release of CD on 'Spoken Tamil'
A CD on 'Spoken Tamil' prepared by the National Integration Program
Unit of the Constitutional Affairs and National Integration Ministry
will be released at a ceremony at the Ministry auditorium on January 27
at 4 pm. Minister DEW Gunasekera will preside.
Gold Awardees AGM
The annual general meeting and annual get-together of the Gold Award
Holders' Association will be held tomorrow from 9 am to 2 pm at the
National Youth Centre auditorium, Maharagama.
National Youth Award Authority Chairman Senerath Kahandaliyange and
former chairperson, Chathurani Abeywira will participate as special
guests.
CWC polls meeting
The Ceylon Workers' Congress election meeting will be held at the
Norwood open playground tomorrow at 10 am under the leadership of Youth
Empowerment and Socio Economic Development Minister and Ceylon Workers'
Congress General Secretary Arumugan Thondaman.
Saudi Arabia Embassy
The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia will be shifted to a new location
from January 26, 2009.
The address of the new location is 43, Horton Place, Colombo 7.
Special fasting and prayer rally
The National Christian Fellowship of Sri Lanka (NCFSL) will hold a
special fasting and prayer rally on January 26 from 10 am to 5 pm at the
Vihara Maha Devi Park.
Free uniform for bus crew
The Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association will distribute uniforms to
owners of bus companies to be provided to their crews on January 24 and
25.

Ven. Mulleriyawe Chandrasiri Thera passes away
Ven. Mulleriyawe Chandrasiri Thera, 53, Viharadhipathi of Sri
Jinendraramaya and Abhinwaramaya, Himbutana and Deputy Chief
Sanghanayake (Western Province) of Kalyani Sri Samagri Dharma Maha
Sangha Sabha passed away.
Cremation will take place on Monday 26, at the Mulleriyawa Ediriweera
Sarathchandra Vidyalaya grounds.
