The Government will embark on a development drive where every one
should get involved once Mullaitivu is captured, Prime Minister
Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said.
He was addressing a meeting at the Udunuwara D.B. Wijetunga National
School grounds in support of the UPFA candidates contesting the Central
Provincial Council Election.
The Prime Minister said the capture of Mullaitivu is imminent.
“It will be a slow and steady movement because obstacles placed by
the enemy have to be surmounted. Prabhakaran is suffering defeat after
defeat today. All escape routes for Prabhakaran have been sealed. He
will either have to commit suicide or be captured by the Forces,” the
Prime Minister said.
Once the war against terrorism ceases, roads have to be
rehabilitated, irrigation restored and agriculture developed paving the
path for mega-development. In the process, the Provincial Councils will
have to shoulder a greater responsibility. Every village will have to
become the hub of development, Wickramanayaka said.
“The people were behind us extending their full support to the
Government in our effort to liberate the North and East. A similar
atmosphere has to be created to accelerate our development priorities,”
he said.
“Our victory is sure by next month. Nothing is heard about the UNP.
So we have to devote ourselves to ensure our victory,” he said. |
