China, Taiwan for joint economic zone
China: The idea of creating a joint economic zone between both sides
of Taiwan Strait was stated by members of the Consultative Political
Conference of Chinese People (CCPPC), which annual session begins
Tuesday.
The advisors to the Ninth National Committee of the CCPPC members of
one of the non communist parties in that assembly said that economic
area will become an engine for the development of the continental part
and Taiwan Island.
The area proposed will be formed by Fujian province, Taiwan, East of
Guangdong, Zhejiang South and Jiangxi center and East, all regions of a
very high industrial and commercial concentration. The initiative is
being boosted by members of the Central Committee of Kuomintang
Revolutionary Committee of China and appeared in the media of the
capital.
The possibility of organizing an integrated economic area is possible
after the change of government in Taiwan where President Ma Ying-jeou
assumed power last year who does not advocate independence of the
island.
