Beach park proposed

A beach park will be set up in Hambantota to add glamour and beauty
to the town.
It will also become a tourist attraction. The driving force behind
the project is the Coast Conservation Department (CCD).
The proposed beach park will be one kilometre in extent. A fully
fledged fish sales outlet will also be set up in Hambantota under the
Post Tsunami Rebuilding Program of the Asian Development Bank.
The fish retail sales outlet will consist of one hundred stalls and
is estimated to cost Rs. 3.3 million.
Teachers’ quaters in disrepair

The teachers’ quarters of the Gonawala Vidyalaya Ginigathena in the
Hatton educational zone in the Nuwara Eliya district is in a state of
disrepair.
The roof of the school teachers’ quarters which was constructed a few
decades ago is decayed leaking the rain water in to the dilapidated
building.
As a result the family of the school teacher is compelled to remain
in the dilapidated building with great difficulty.
Therefore the school development society appeal to the authorities
concerned to take steps to reconstruct the teachers’ quarters of the
Gonawala Vidyala.
STC Matara OBA, AGM
The Annual General Meeting get-together and dinner of S. Thomas’
College Matara Old Boys’ Association Colombo Branch will be held on
Saturday, March 28 at the Sanhinda Leisure Centre, Stanley Thilakarathna
Mawatha, Nugegoda, from 5.30 p.m.
The annual scholarship presentation under the Dudley Devaraja
Memorial Trust will also take place.
Chief Minister’s conference
All arrangements have been finalised to conduct the Chief Minister’s
Conference in the Batticaloa district.
The conference will be held on April 10 and 11, under the guidance of
the Chief Minister for the Eastern Province, Sivanesathurai
Chandrakanthan.
Officials are making arrangements for the event.
She needs a kidney
Dona Sakunthala Pushparani Wettasinghe (58) of 3 C/99, Mattegoda
Housing Complex, Mattegoda is suffering from acute renal failure and
Consultant Nephrologist Dr. A.L.M. Nazar (Nawaloka Hospital) who is
treating her has recommended an immediate kidney transplant to save her
life. She requests a kind hearted person to donate a kidney to enable
her to undergo this surgery.

Rice prices down

The price of rice has come down in the open market in Pothuwatawana
and suburbs.
A kilo of No. 01 Samba, a kilo of No. 02 Nadu and a kilo of white
rice Kekulu are sold at Rs. 68, Rs. 55 and Rs. 56.
Kelaniya University reopens on March 26
The Kelaniya University will re-open for academic activities on March
26, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Sarath Amunugama said.
All residential students should report back to their respective halls
of residence on March 25, he said.
The University was temporarily closed on February 25 following
student clashes.
Get together
Golden Nite, the annual get-to gether of the Old Anandians 75 - 80
group will be held from March 24 to 28 at the Galadari Hotel.
Funds raised from this event will be utilised for the various social
service projects conducted by the group every year.

Blood donation
The Sri Bhodirukkarama Young Buddhist Association in Kahalla and Sri
Pranchadheepa Daham School in the Pathadumbara Divisional Secretariat
Division have jointly organised a blood donation campaign on March 26 at
the Daham School in Kahalla Katugastota.
Prize giving
The Kolonnawa MMA will conduct its Ahadiyya School first year
anniversary and prize giving on March 28 at 4 p.m. at the A. M. A. Azeez
Memorial Hall, All Ceylon YMMA Conference, Colombo 9.
Avurudu sale
The Colombo (Host) Lion Ladies will conduct a ‘Avurudu Sale’ on
Sunday March 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s Milagiriya Hall,

Buddhist talk
Mrs. Anoja Wijesekera will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English
on ‘The Case for Rebirth’ at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha

Mahopadyaya Thera passes away
Ven.
Rajakeeya Panditha Nugawela Pannajoti Thera Mahopadyaya of the Sri Lanka
Ramanna Maha Nikaya passed away. He was 97.
His remains are now lying at Gateekara Aramaya, Katugastota. Funeral
takes place on March 25 at 2.30 pm at Sri Rahula Vidyalaya grounds,
Katugastota.
