Rural roads improved in PS area

The accelerated rural road improvement program implemented in the
Kirinda-Puhulwella Pradeshiya Sabha area has shown a significant
progress at the present moment, said Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sanath
Hettiarachchi (UPFA).
He was addressing the monthly meeting of the Kirinda-Puhulwella
Pradeshiya Sabha held in its auditorium recently.
He said that over 90 percent of the constructions and reconstructions
of these roads have been completed at a cost of Rs. 37.4 million under
Maga Neguma development program of the Government.
New constructions and reconstructions of side walls, ditches and
culverts would also be included in these development activities.
The decision to close down the maternity home at Kirinda and conduct
the same as a central dispensary has to be changed. A hospital committee
should be appointed to look into its shortcomings and upgrade it to the
status of a rural hospital. This sabha has also reached a decision to
allocate funds for the maintenance of early childhood development
centres in the division, he said.
Vice Chairman Shantha Rajapakse (UPFA) said that all road development
work in this Pradeshiya Sabha division would be possible to be completed
by 2010.
Infrastructural development projects in Grama Niladari divisions of
Ovitigamuwa North and Ovitigamuwa South have been commenced by the Sri
Lanka Southern Development Authority. In addition a housing construction
project has also got underway there.
Rs. 1 lakh is to be given for the construction of each shelter by the
Authority. A total of over Rs. 7 million is to provided for the
infrastructural development activities by the Sri Lanka Southern
Development Authority, he said.
Asoka Wickramasinghe (UPFA) said that Walakanda community hall is
nearing collapse owing to disrepairs, Rural Development activities in
Walakande and Watukolakanda divisions have been completed at a cost of
Rs. 3 million, she added. |
