To obtain details about civilians:
Computerised data system introduced
SARATH MALALASEKERA
The Police Department with the assistance of the Defence Ministry
launched a program to obtain full particulars of all citizens through a
modern computerised data system operated in a fully automated bus
donated by the Transport Ministry.
The religious ceremonies were conducted by Ven. Meegahatenna
Chandrasiri Nayake Thera, Rev. Fr. Anselem Fonseka of the Rajagiriya
Mission and Al Haj A.N.M. Piriduwas Mandai Moulana.
The launching ceremony was held at The Nippon Educational and
Cultural Centre, Mahindarama Temple at Kotte with the participation of
Chief Incumbent of the Mahindaramaya Temple Ven. Meegahatenna
Chandrasiri Nayake Thera, IGP Jayantha Wickremaratne, Senior DIG Nimal
Mediwaka, DIGs Prasanna Nanayakkara, H.M.D. Herath, senior and junior
officers of the Defence Ministry, officers attached to the Western
Province Police Divisions and the people living in the Western Province
area.
The new concept of obtaining details of a person through a modern
computerised data base was the brain child of Defence Information Unit
Director Janaka Mudalige. The first Police driver who got the
opportunity to drive this computerised bus is Constable Priyadharshana
Kumara (PD-334444).
IGP Wickremaratne said that it was a blessing to launch this new
system at the Mahindarama Temple. He said in the past the public had to
come to a police station to give their details but under the new
computerised system the police will go to the public to register their
details.
The IGP appealed to the public to use this modern system for their
benefit and requested them not to give shelter to strangers in their
houses.
“We started this program in the Western Province and will introduce
it to other Provinces in due course,” the IGP added.
The public could obtain more details thorough e-mail www.citizens.lk
The Defence Ministry release stated that all citizens should provide
the area Police Station OIC their relevant details. Any one violating
these orders will be prosecuted. |
